Hello, I'm new!
« on: 16 December 2007, 18:33 »
Hello all.

I'm a newbie, not only to this forum, but also Mk1 ownership. I'd always wanted one, but never really found one I liked, then on a chance visit to the inlaws spotted my new pride and joy.

Yarp (yes, i'm sorry, i'm one of those people who name cars), is a completely origional 1981 Mk1 GTi, with the only modification being a Mk2 GTi engineering 1.9 16v engine and some coil overs.

83K genuine on the clock, i'm the third registerd owner and he's in really great condition.

I'll be looking to find out as much as I can about the Mk1, fix the few bits that need fixing, and generally bring him back to a concourse standard, with a few tweeks.

Also looking for any meets that happen in the midlands - in particular Peterborough - area.

Thanking you all, and hello!

Oo. Err. Pass!

Man, i sound so lame! I'm just so new to the whole VAG world and am trying to learn really fast.

The best i know is that this engine was built by GTi engineering in 1989 for a MK2. I've phoned them to see if they have details, but they don't keep records that far back.

About 6 months ago or so, it was dropped into the Mk1, but there appears to be some connection issues.

The speedo isn't working and it not starting from cold without quite a lot of effort are my first two major headaches. Really need to get those sorted, so if anyone has any ideas, i'm awesome at making tea!
