Considering Ordering - Typical Discounts?
« on: 13 December 2007, 19:26 »
Hi All,

Im new to the forum....

Currently have a Focus im considering part exchanging against a new dealer ordered Golf Gti.

What would you all consider must have extras. Im looking at getting the 5 door DSG Version Diamond Black.

Extras im looking at is:-

Winter Pack
Parking Sensors
The Upgraded Radio with In Dash Changer RCD 500
Multi Function Steering Wheel Including High Line Computer

Are these good choices and is there anything else you would recommend. Would like the Sat Nav but cant really justify the cost, compared to purchasing a top of the range Tom Tom or something.

One of the reasons im thinking of this change from Ford to VW is about resale value, the GTIs seem to hold the value very well, would you agree?

What kind of discount should I look to get from a main dealer if any? - I know they wont really discount the ED 30 but what tend of discounts have people been getting on the basic GTIs.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Id definately go for the xenon lights, they look so much better than the standard items plus they look awesome at night and also a centre armrest is essential, it makes for a much more comfortable drive. I personally would'nt go for the upgraded radio as its way overpriced for what you actually get, id go for some aftermarket stuff once you get the car. I had the sat nav in my old GT TDI and thought it was preety poor hence me not ordering it for my ed30, again id upgrade with an aftermarket item. As for discount on the car im not to sure as I went for the ed30, I got a very good deal on that so I cant see why you would'nt get some good discount on a normal GTI

Id say a discount on a GTI is mandatory
I got significant amount off an ED30 , so Id expect even better for a GTI
Lots of cars around , MkVI due soon (although a while for GTI version), winter time , heading into recession

Id say haggle hard
Resale value isnt as good as the myth imho

Your choices are great but yes get Xenons, stereo ok if you plan to keep but aftermarket better if you want ipod etc

You may even wish to consider 2nd hand?

Let us know what you decide

No to Xenons for me - you only use lights them a fraction of the time, and most of that time your are probably under street lights or following other traffic. How many times do you have problems seeing at night - £ per mile they're poor value, with  wheels and leather you get to use them all the time!

Agree with the arm rest comment

I got parking sensors for the wife - after 2 reversing accidents in the previous car I'm sure to get my money back but as the car is so small they hardly ever kick in for me.

There is general disappointment with the MFSW - do a search on this site

Must get the highline (£50)

I bought an import for £21k  - £4k saved on list but likely to affect residuals in the short/medium term
