climate control problem?
« on: 13 December 2007, 08:05 »
can anyone comment/advise on the following possible climate control fault?

I live in Cheshire and have a 07 Candy White GTi. AT present its 7:30 am and about -2 Deg outside. If I get in the car, turn on the heating functions with the temp set at e.g. 23 Deg, even though the car is stone cold, it immediately blasts cold air out with the fan on about 4 bars/indicators. I believe this is wrong.

Previously I had an A3 and my brother has a Leon Cupra, basically very similar cars. In both of those cars, if you repeat the above tests, the climate control turns the fan to off. This is because the Climate Control realises the car is stone cold and cannot deliever 23 Deg. However after driving for 5-10 minutes, the car is warmed up and the fan then automatically starts and delivers the correct temp of 23 Deg.

I believe the CC in the Audi and Seat work correctly and I believe my Golf is incorrect. I spoke with the stealer yesterday and they advise that the Golf is meant to work this way and that my car is not faulty.

Anyone else noticed this or could test accordingly?  any comments?

That's definitely not right. Mine works as you describe the way the Seat/Audi does, as did my previous Audi A3 too.

Certainly do not get a 'blast' of air hot or cold.   On A3 you can 'overide' the normal air flow - handy for de-frosting in the mornings (it's warm enough to clear windscreen within about 1-2 minutes).

Have not found similar control on the GTI - perhaps I haven't looked far enough.

well if yours has a problem so does mine

I have noticed that too every morning , although I normally whack the temp up to HI at the same time
and thats when the fan speed increases.
I always have to manually turn the fan speed down to prevent my tootsies freezing!

Golf doesnt really warm up that quick either in comparison to other cars.

so if I have it on auto and turn the temp up to 20+ the fan wont come on until it's ready to give warm air...always thought that was clever (2005 GTI)

The CC is suppose to be like that.
If you turn the temp up it automatically turns the fan speed up aswell. Just like when you turn the temp down it turns the fan speed down aswell.

It kind of understands that if the tempertaure is turned up to say "high" then it must be cold and the car compensates it by turning up the fans to deliver warm air quickly just like it turns the fan speed down when you turn the temp to cold.

Every morning when i start the car up my temp is normally set to 22*C and 1 fan bar but i crank it up to high temp and the fan speed increases on its own to around 4/5 bars and i turn it down myself. And generally in the morning i have all teh air directed at the windscreen to clear all the mist and sheeet

But, i always have my climate on ECONomical.

I leave mine on auto all the time, seems to do the job without me bumbling about with it
