***URGENT PROBLEM, WINDSCREEN WASHERS NOT WORKING***
« on: 12 December 2007, 23:16 »
Hi.

I own a 1987 Golf GTI 8v. It failed the MOT as the windsceen washers don't work.
I've plugged a multimeter into the wiring to the motor and it's showing 12v so I bought a new motor.
Hooked the new motor up and still doesn't work although it's still showing 12v.
Connected the motor direct to the battery and it works.
12v is getting to the connector.
Motor works when connected direct to batttery.

Any ideas anyone else had the same problem??

Retext this weekend so need to sort this as It's getting a touch annoying!!!

I'm guessing you've checked this but is the fluid frozen? It's also worth checking the pipes, the fluid may not be but the pipes could be

Have you checked the stalk is is working? Im no expert, but for example, the rear wiper gets 12v all the time, but the 12v switches over wires when you press the wiper stalk.  (IIRC)

You could always give the indicator stalk's copper contacts a clean.

Check for blocked pipes, that pipes are connected and stick a pin down the hole of the washer to make sure they're not blocked there. Check the hole on the pump is not blocked either. If you're getting voltage to the pins and it's a new pump then I'm inclined to think there's a blockage somewhere.
......now officially dubless.

Most likely a stalk fault as they are prone to this. Try a stalk from a scrappy.

If it's not the motor then it's a switch. Check the stalk out
