oil cap milky substance
« on: 12 December 2007, 13:53 »
Hi,...just got my second service done on monday and I was checking it later that night and I see there is a little bit of a creamy substance on the bottom of the oil cap and a slight scum around the oil filler neck...

I'm hoping this isnt a sign of a head gasket going on a 2 1/2 year old GTI with 33k miles on it..

anyone else seen this on theirs ?

Thats condensation. Can be caused by a few things but in general its cold weather short trips, nothing to worry about. Changing the oil and filter more regularly will stop it.

I had my car 6 weeks brand new and had the same.. my heart fell into my stomach as I thought the head gasket was on its way  what a relief when I was reliably told it was just a bit of condensation!
