vdo...oil cooler... weird question!!!
« on: 10 December 2007, 16:19 »
about to hook up the vdo's in mine

wondered about the t-piece, is this so that you can have oil pressure warning light on maf AND oil pressure read out on VDO, and the thrid sensor is the oil temp for vdo?

and i heard you can run something off an oil cooler... well my mk1 gti has an oil cooler.... so i presume i can run it off there?? very very very confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you have a dual pole pressure sender, you remove the matching std pressure sender and install the dual pole in its place.  One pole is for the gauge usually marked 'G')and the other if for the wire from the old sender usually marked 'WK'.  Which sender you replace depends on the type of dual pol sender you got, check the markings on the spanner flats, if it says 0.3barish replace the low pressure sender, if it says 1.8barish replace the high pressure sender.  The low pressure sender is black, brown or blue with a blue wire, onthe side of the head if it an 8v, or oil filter houising if it a 16v.  The high pressure sender is the white one on the oil filter housing with a yellow wire.

Next we have the oil temp sender.  If you want both the MFA and VDO oil gauges to work, you need to use a T-piece so that both senders can fit into 1 hole, the thread you need is M10x1.  If you don't care about the MFA, remove the old sender and thread the VDO one in its place!  The temp sender is a small single pin joibber, with a black/green wire.  On an 8v its on the oil filter housing, and on a 16v its on the back of the head.

All the above locations assume MK2 Golf, the MK3 8v has the oil temp & high pressure senders in the oil filter housing and low pressure in the side of the head, and the 16v has all 3 in the filter housing.   Advantage of a MK3 is it has a spare blanked off sensor point, either on the filter housing on the 8v models, or the back side of the head on 16v models.
