Hi guys,

I've had a bit of a nightmare this weekend. Noticed a small oil leak from the top of my oil cooler which quickly progressed to a really bad oil leak which pissed oil all over the road outside my house. After a trip to my local VW dealer I got a new seal to go onto the top of the oil cooler and thought I'd change the oil filter and oil at the same time.

So fitted the new seal, filled the car up with 10w 40 part synthetic magnatec and started it up, oil leak fixed but found I had split a coolant hose when taking the cooler off. Cut the hose back and refitted it (temporary fix I'll get a new one on monday).

The problem I have now is that the car seams to be running hot and the oil light on the dash keeps flashing but not continuously it just fickers on and off.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?? Could I have fitted the cooler back wrong?? or maybe there's another problem that caused the seal to go in the first place? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated?

id guess when u changed the seal, and repaired the coolant hose youve got air into the system... as for the light flickering sounds possibly electrical, dont know if there is a pressure sender around where youve been messing, above the oil filter maybe?

The oil warning light is pressure related so i'd be checking oil levels and connections to the sensors, but are you sure its not the water level in your expansion tank being too low? This'll cause the red light in the temp gauge to flash.  :smiley:

No Im pretty sure the level in the expansion chamber is fine. I checked the top and bottom rad hoses, top is hot bottom is cold. So it might be an airlock I need to get rid. But this still doesn't explain the oil light flashing. Is the oil pressure sensor the one in top of the oil cooler??

Top one will run hot and bottom one cold untill the thermostat opens, run the car upto temp then check the hoses then

They're two, one on top of the cooler and one on the block. If you have a search I'm sure there is further info about on the forum about which one does what.
