On the way home and this happened!!

All of a sudden i heard a loud crashing sound over my right shoulder and when i looked i saw this!!! []

holy sh!t  was it making any weird noises before it went bang??? anymore damage???

Same happened to one of mine, your upper spring plate has rusted away, gsf do them, you can replace both rear shocks, bump stops, top spring plates and top bushes for under a ton

Nothing, no rattles, knocks, creeks, nothing

Thought it was my upper spring plate that had gone. Will get it sorted tomorrow. I am right in saying, i can just change the plate?

Just found the part number for the upper spring plate

May be of use to somebody.

You can just change the plate but i would do the bush as well whilst you are there as it could of damaged it

never had this on a vw....this did happen on a cavalier sri I had about 10years ago (and it was only 6 years old).. i have never bought vauxhall again and on that the whole top mount area had rusted away

I know someone who had the exact same thing happen on a cavalier about 6 years ago, both struts went straight through the top mount as they had corroded
