the MK4 computer has 2 memories the 1 indicated short term, the 2 which you can switch to / from by pressing the reset button (press not hold) is long term.

the 1 resets after a couple of hours (can never remember) and the 2 resets after something stupid, the actual times are in the handbook.

1 - resets 2 hours after you turn the ignition off
2 - resets after 99 hours 99 minutes of driving
