popular engine conversions.
« on: 07 December 2007, 13:43 »
hi i am pretty new to the scene so i am after a bit of advice. went to look at an oak freen 16 valve mark 2 last night. all seems well with it and its reasonably priced. there are a few bit and bobs it needs but nothing offputting. the seller seems like a reasonable guy but he's selling it as a 2.2, telling me its a passat engine. i didnt think there was a 2.2 passat??  he bought it with this engine in and couldnt give me any more details.  it is definately faster and smoother than my 1.8 8v. is there a 2.2 passat engine, or if not is there any likelyhood its been bored out to 2.2? im assuming the only way to tell its been bored out is to strip the engine. ( or "fill the petrol tank up and see how many litres it ts" as my mate's mrs helpfully guggested...)

I know with a 2.0 bottom end and a deisel crank you can get it up to 2.1 but not heard of 2.2 at all!

There has been a 2.2 16v built by a company a long time ago, although i cant remember who built it, all i can really remember is that it took a lot of time and was built differently around 3 times and they named it after a ww2 german plane

It runs throttle bodies i know that as they couldnt get the fuelling from the k jet, if i can find any more info about it i will let you know but its either buried in my flat or in my mums attic

But to answer the original question it wont be standard 2.2 and the chances are it wont be a modified to a 2.2

they did do a 2.0 16v in a passat though which i should imagine is what it is

Hi. If it is an early 90's 2.0L 16v Passat motor it should have the code `9A' in the engine number.
