Modding your Air Box - General
« on: 19 March 2004, 10:22 »
Hello guys and gals !!

Silly question for you as usual .... after my 57i kit decided to rip the mounting bolt off the susepension turret and get mangled by the alternator I'm gonna consider modding my air box. (That's what i get for having my SPAX set to 'rigid' I guess !!)

My question is I understand all the priciples of cold air flow ect but after making a few extra holes in the right places (might even get the dremel out and cut a nice square section), do you still get that lovely induction roar?

I was soooo suprised with the noise my baby made with the K&N ... I'm loathed to go hacking up the air box in case there's just no difference.

Exactly the same thing happened to me >:(.

I've chopped my airbox to fit the k&N in it by removing part of the top to allow for the size of the Filter.  I've made a custom air intake by going to the scrappies and getting an intake from a different car which is in an L shape (think it was an escort).  Anyway, this comes in from the front of the car at the top of the grill and enters the airbox through a small hole I've made in the side.  This counters the hot air from the hole in the top of the airbox.  Works very nicely if I do say so myself ;D

i just pulled the resonater pipe out of the base of my airbox, gives a lovely deep sound at low rpms, then when it goes over 4.5k it just howls!

I have completely removed the front of the airbox, including the pipe up to the top just below the clips to hold the top on,and it makes a nice roar every time i plant it :)
