From what I can see in the last year or so companies are showcasing their flagship models in white.

I've noticed that too. For example, the new Nissan GTR (though white doesn't suit it), the Audi R8's been showcased in white, and on the BMW site, the movies for the new M3 are of a white car (which looks rather tasty actually!).

I think it's the 'ipod generation' kicking in, plus the fact that almost every shopping trolley on the road is some variant of metallic silver/grey/light blue and every repmobile is some variant of silver/black/deep blue.

That's why I've ordered a white Edition 30... a month to go hopefully.

Anyone want a gti-6 for 1500 quid?

After two weeks of driving around in a White GTi i have many posative comments regarding how good the car looks. White in the winter looks great - you get dirty water marks from where the wind passes over the car at high speed. If i had to replace this GTi i would specifically look for one in white, so i will help to push up the re-sale values!

Seen a Porsche 911 Turbo in white (brand new) and that looked amazing - could see the water marks flowing into the rear air intakes!!!

Any other colour and the GTi looks like any other Golf out there from a quick glance unless you know what to look for.

Still need to give it a good clean and get some photo's up - 847 miles on the clock and starting to push it a bit harder - i love it!

you are wrong, mate. White looks great at night, especially when the nights are either very hot, or cold.
Also, regarding the dirt, I thought like you before I bought the car, but it turned out not being true. And my bosses black CL500 looks worse than my white E30, which I did not clean for a month now. Black car looks great when it is clean, and reflexes like a mirror. A little rain, a little dirt from the road, and this mirror reflexion disappears, and it looks dirty. The white car does not have mirror reflexion (it is not metallic), and a little dirt only makes it look a bit gray in certain places, but otherwise it still looks great from a little distance. maybe I should take a photo next time....

Basically, white looks cleaner when dirty than black.
