Head Gasket

Hi guys the Head Gasket has given up :( steam out of the exhaust and water is now beginning to mix with the oil.

I'm going to attempt the head gasket on friday with my haynes manual...

The engine has not overheated whatsoever and has run normally at normal temp, i hear that this means i won't have to get the head skimmed?

also how difficult is it to do?

I have just done mine on an 8v Digi, literally finished it yesterday. Best advice is allow yourself plenty of time, use a good set of tools and be prepared to work a bit on your own initiative as the haynes isn't exactly brilliant for this. I didn't skim mine but you will need something to scrape the old gasket off the block and head that isn't gonna take gouges out of them. Its not the easiest job in the world, but then its not as difficult as some would have you believe.

Ok since first noticing the above the oil started to go a dark grey colour, on its way to the mayo stuff, however now, its back to normal, no mayo at all  :huh: i really don't understand this. It's still emptying the resevoir every 10 miles or so but no mayo or oil level increase........HELP!!

if you dnt need your motor for a week or so id rebuild the head anyway..get a h/gasket set, change the stem seals, clean the ports, get a piper ultimate cam in there while you at it lol and then bolts it back up..its really easy when youve got into the swing of things

ridiculously expensive, dont bother, specially if your not actually gonna race it. just put a standard cam back in and have it tuned up.

nah get a piper cam second hand for like £130 :P ... 15bhp for £130, bargin!

Have you tried a oil cooler before ripping head this sits above the oil filter this happened too me straight after i just rebuilt my engine. Oil was mixing in the header tank.

i was told the 020 rod box was supposed to be a strong box,how wrong are they 5 and counting on my mk2. Hopefully the quaiffe box will last.

wouldnt this cause the oil or oil&water mixture level to rise on the dipstick? :huh:
