1. Take out a 1.8T for a test drive.
2  You wont look back
3  Running costs are nowhere near as bad as you might think.

Ive had my 1.8T for three years and done 40000 miles in it, the worst thing to go wrong was both the windows dropping into the door. The engine has not missed a beat!! You know you NEED one.

I'm not concerned about running cost, I think my 2.0 probs cost more to run than a 1.8T

Looks like 20vT here I come ! :D

Oddly i'm in pretty much exactly the same situation as aland, right down to the colour of my 2.0l and looking at a 1.8t in april ! (i'm a bit older though)

One thing which is putting me off is.... I've read a bit about remaps and saying that you need to run it on optimax/premium fuels etc.  With the way petrol prices are going at the moment that is surely going to add up quite a lot.  Even if your not hammering round everywhere the extra cost of of the fuel will add up i'd imagine.

don't need to worry about that so much with diesel

if you're going to be strugginling finacially then do the sensible thing and wait another 12 months and re asses your situation.  No point bankrupting yourself and then having to sell the turbo; you'll loose a lot of money.

Nonsence.

People just map them on/run them on supers' to maximise the gains, that's all.  The only thing it won't like (initially, anyway - & also, not that it will be a major problem) is mapping it on super & then running it on cheapo stuff & maybe vice versa.......???
