Hummm Is it realllllly worth it?
« on: 03 December 2007, 10:49 »
Chaps !

Currently own a 2.0l and the plan was to swap this for the 1.8T model in April when I turn 21. I had planned to do a staight swap (sell this and money for this goes on new car). There really isnt anything jumping out at me and Im worried its really going to start to cost more to get the one I want. Not to mention extra insurance costs etc.

The whole point of me getting the 1.8T is that I want to remap it and go faster (how old am I lol !) but then costs are just goingt o keep going up and up with insurance plus extra stuff. I have held of modding this car (simple things like colour codeing, nice wheels, interior touches etc) due to planning on selling it, but I'm seroisuly thinking of just makeing this one I have no look pretty and keeping it for anouther 2 years or so. I have recently had meetings at work with regards to pay and I now have a structerd plan in place which will see me earning a lot more money over the next years.

So my question is simple, is it really going to be worth the extra costs of finding, purchasing, insuring the 1.8T when I have a perfect example of a 2.0 (which I know is not the fastest thing in the world, but its by no means slow now is it). Mint body (apart from a tiny dink on the wing mirror). Runs as sweet as a nut, not had problems. I can just see myself buying this 1.8T and then having problems and then being skint and not having a life because all my money goes on the car when I could have just kept what I got now and waited another few years.

Hummmmmmmm . . . .  :undecided:

LOL! Sorry dude

When you remap a 1.8t the fuel consumption doesnt go up if you drive it sensibly but it just makes you want to put your foot down more! I have never actually driven an 8v or been in one but I have raced a few and they are slow in comparison! If your car is mint and the only reason for selling it and getting a 1.8t is to go a bit faster you do have to think can you afford the petrol to be going fast? If you can then do it, especially since you can sell yours and get a 1.8t without having to actually put anymore money in!

Have you ever driven a 1.8t?

get a 1.8T mate you know you want to.....

reckon you will get a good price for yours and buy a comparible 1.8T for no extra money...

and the 1.8T wond drink oil like the 2.0

As for insurance, remap dont tell them (i didnt say that tho) and as Ash says fuel wont change too much with a remap!!!!!!

OR buy a leon Cupra R(225bhp and remap that to over 270bhp)

its completely different mate, the rev range is longer (20valve not 8v) when the turbo kicks in you get the feel/sound. It makes for a much more fun driving experience than a naturally aspirated car!
