Electric or Manual winder?  Is there anything you do that makes it drop?

i found that my driverside electric window regulator/motor was not working so i took it off stripped it, cleaned the rust off it put it back together........

also i found that the foamy guide bit wasnt sitting right, and the glass was sliding up the wrong side, corrected that and now its ok (although a bit slower than the passenger side)

this im happy about because my local VAG garage said just bin the motor & get a new one........

It's manual sorry

Nothing I do makes it drop. May be the bumps in the road though.

You removed your door cards and had a look inside? Maybe there is something loose. If it is only the drivers side, remove the door card from the passengers side to make sure it all looks in place(or vise-versa). If its both sides, well then I dunno :p get someone to take pics of what their window winders look like behind the door cards.
