I hate my car
« on: 02 December 2007, 18:12 »
Two weekends ago I replaced my fuel injectors and decided to change all the O rings as well for safety including the one on the fuel pressure regulator. Did it all drove around for one day with no problems, then strong smells of petrol, smoke and a call to the fire brigade. The new O ring on the fuel pressure regulator had become trapped when I put it and then dislodged itself pouring petrol everywhere.

I've replaced everything that was damaged and get her running again today, I even decided to plump for a new regulator as I had my doubts about the old one anyway. Went for a 30 minute drive with no problems so filled her up and headed home happy. Went out about 30 minutes ago, she started then strong petrol smells. I haven't investigated because I've had enough, it looks to be the same again though, petrol spraying all over the manifold, etc. This time I took extra care putting the regulator in the rail, I took the rail out, got the regulator in, left it, took the regulator out to check the ring and it wasn't damaged so I assumed I wouldn't have this again.

I'm seriously pissed off I rounded one of the bolt heads holding the throttle body in trying to get it out so I could rebuilt it all again easily. I haven't got money to pay a mechanic but need the car for my daily driver. I'm half tempted to sell her as she is, although I think that's just me being angry now.

Any ideas on fail safe ways to get the regulator in the rail without damaging the ring? Could something else be causing this?

the regualtor should be held on with 2 screws, perhaps the thread in the fuel rail is stripped?
