How to make 1.6 driver quicker?
« on: 02 December 2007, 14:54 »
Any ideas???

My friend has a 1.6 driver 91 J reg (Hans old mk2), anyways this is he post on my local cruise site!

ok so i am looking to make my golf quicker!

its currently pretty standard,
except for a K & N, and a cam of a GTI, should be getting a webber for it in the next few weeks, (waiting on a mate getting me it)
it also appears to have a custom exhaust, it comes 4 - 2 - 1 from the engine, rather than the standard 4 -1, but not sure if this was intentional or just the easiest way (the old owners boyfriend fitted it for her) ( i still need a backbox tho!)

asides from any major engine work (i.e. engine out of car stuff) i am looking to making it quicker,
found a nice guide on clubGTI for how to make throttle body management on the cheap, but it doesnt mention the specifics of the throttle bodies itself! so anyone know anything about throttle bodies in relation to my mk 2 golf (1.6 driver 91J)

or anyone have any suggestions on how to make her quicker? or even tricks and tips! doesnt have to be expensive stuff, GTI cam was only £25 and made loads of difference as elle found out!

Can anyone please give us some insight on how to make this engine a little quicker??

Please do not mention new car or new engine as at the moment they are not an option!!

Thank youuu!!

Gti cylinder head (bigger valves than the driver i do believe) as well as a gti manifold and exhaust system, together with the Weber that he is already getting. I think there is something about using an 8v dizzy to get the most out of the gti cam.

I don't have any first hand experience in this, i've just read a lot about it as i was going to do it myself. But then i got a gti............
