MY MAN  thought I might find you here after the text earlier, hope this thing isnt giving you too many headaches...

from what i know (as you know this aint alot) you will get that Hall Sensor error code when the ignition is swtiched on and the motor isnt running because there is no signal being sent to the ecu from the sensor...

here's what I have found hope it helps, this one is not VW specific but looks like the camshaft position sensor will cause a non start

2113 (Blink Fault Code), 00515 VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number
(G40) Hall sensor in distributor
(3B, early AAN engines) or camshaft position Hall Effect sensor later S4/S6 AAN engine).
Distributor alignment, faulty sender, Mis-located sensor & distributor, Cam timing possibly incorrect on AAN engine, Check lower Crankshaft Gear keyway
Symptom: Engine will not start, power loss, check engine light may come on during driving above certain RPM

Have you got a Bentley manual? if not download one from the link in the mk4 forum there's a proper VW procedure for checking the camshaft sensor, here's a snippet of one of the checks...

and this is where the sensor is

I'm sure there is a way of checking the sensor while cranking the engine with an LED light hooked up but can't find the procedure

give me buzz if you need any help buddy

Hey guys,

I thought I'd update this thread...  ok so I replaced the blue water temp sender in my car and it still failed to start.  I had it flat beded to my trusty auto electrician and he called me the next day to tell me the car was running fine.

Basically he said that I had done the right thing and it was the temp sender that was the problem.  He said all he did was clean the terminals for all of the water senders, connections and made sure it was all hooked up ok.  Boom she fired right up.

Also he confirmed that my VAG COM reader tool did pick up the right readings, however the hall sensor issue was probably dude to the car not be able to run.

Anyway issue fixed and I'm back on the road.

Just remeber to check those connections and maybe clean all the terminals.

:)  Thanks everyone who helped.
