first scratch
« on: 25 November 2007, 10:52 »
Im pi**ed off this morning. Just washed the car and found my first scratch, well not so much a scratch but a scuff. Its on the drivers door on the protection bar or whatever u call it. It looks like I have scuffed it on the garage wall when getting out of the car. I have sponge on the wall but must not have driven far enough in for the door to open on the sponge.

I have posted a photo, blurred but cant seem to get it in focus.

What are my options?

Touch up brush and paint set from VW. Easy fix if you have a steady hand. If you aren't confident with a brush then there are plenty of touch up companies that would cure it for around £80. Chips away is one, but as I say there are plenty. :nerd:

gutted for you , I found my first stonechip while washing the car this morning

Touch up will be fine , just make sure you dont put too much paint on (Use a cut down matchstick) and your eye will no longer be drawn to it

and extend the sponge if you can lol

I have seen reflex silver at both, basically the same kit. It's just the price that'll differ.

I suffered a similar mark on mine, and also got another much more noticeable one in the middle of the rub-strip where some idiot obviously opened their door against mine. Some touch-up paint and you'd hardly see it really...
Has anyone else noticed how easy it is to mark the side-rubbing strips? Esp on the 3-door, they seem to stick out more than on the 5-door ("humped" in the middle). They seem quite easy to scuff if an idiot next to you is not careful in the carpark

I use a big piece of carpet on my garage wall to help stop this.

We have a rule. Nobody gets into the left had side of the car at all until the car is pulled out. Right hand side is ok since the Pajero is there and there is more than enough space.

Managed to get a paint kit from Halfords, they stock candy white from VW thankfully. £7.95 and a careful hand and you cant really tell it was ever marked. Feel much better now.
