mk2 16v swap for mk2 2.9 vr6
« on: 25 November 2007, 09:25 »
looking at swapping my golf for a mk2 2.9 vr6 with a stage 2 head. Its bright blue, digital dash, 16 * 9 borbet alloys (7 months old), rallye front end. Any ideas how much to offer with my car which is the oak green one bellow, which is in mint condition. The vr6 i gather which i will hopfully look at later needs a few things doing to it bonnet needs a respay and slight rust under rear window.

With the way fuel prices are going I wouldnt have a VR at the momment and if that ones been modded to any degree it'll be sh!te on fuel. Your MK2 looks like a realy nice one and if it was me I'd keep it, just my opinion though

Only really get too use the golf every other w/e so not overly conerned about fuel too much, though I hope it wouldn't be too thirsty!!. The one i'm looking at is also a 3 door hich do look alot better i think. It does need the tracking and camber doing presumaably due to te large wheels? Any think else i should look out for?

I do like your Golf, but the VR is tempting. VR6 engines need work at around 100k, namely head work due to the kind of life its had. But you say its had a stage 2 head so the seals, guides and chains must be new or changed.

I'd definately check who did the conversion, what additional parts were changed like engine mounts etc, what mileage the engine had done before, whether it was overbored or was from a Corrado due to being 2.9l. I would think the history would tell you a lot, especially why they would want to swap. Seems like a good deal on your part to be honest!

And the best advice i was given before when i was thinking to swap my 16v for an 8v, better the devil you know!
