I've come back to my GTI.....
« on: 16 March 2004, 13:07 »
Well i've just been off for a few weeks getting hitched and sitting in the sun in malaysia, only to return to my GTI pleasantly surprised.

I left it in the air traffic control car park near heathrow as i can bagsy free parking for the few weeks i was away. It started first time on the key, smooth as you like (in fact smoother than normal) and after driving a crappy proton for 2 weeks it was like a ferrari.

I've also now coming back to the forum to the same old things:

people still have cars that run badly and stall. tip - read the sticky posts for solutions to the common problems!

Black GTI getting well wound up by all and sundry about the 8v. Well i have an 8v and on its own merits its ok, but i have to agree having owned and driven lots of other cars it really isnt a very quick car. nippy yes. quick no. It is also rubbish on the motorway above 80 (sorry for motorway read autobahn). gutless in 5th gear and its a bad state when the current Fiesta is nearly as quick as a Golf GTI. Oh and the handlings not that great. too much understeer. Well built, solid, fairly smooth and good looking though.

Bit of a no subject post, but at least it makes a change to all the other posts!!! ;D

Its pretty good actually. She got a wedding so i'm working on getting a new car. i tend to talk about it for ages and then it'll happen.

she likes BMW Compacts, I quite like the Audi S3, but i would sell her, my gran and my house for an E39 BMW M5.....
