Hi new to the forum and New ED 30 owner

Hi

Bet you get this all the time but if you could give me some quick pointers that would be great

Just orderd a standard Ed 30 manual from an importer for just over 20k new with delivery milleage in silver. Love the new golf, really looking forward to driving a decent car for a change.

Anybody know anything about the Motorhouse in Cannock, or have any good/bad experiences with them?

What do I need to look out for with regards to the importer with respect to spec/warranty. (I get a standard two year European warranty and they said they will register the car on the dealer network, is that normal?)

Running the car in, what should I limit the revs to and for how many miles before I can properly boot it?

Whats the deal with insurance, is it higher because it's an import and will a the cost of a tracker be worth the reduction in insurance?

Anything else to look out for with this spec or euro imports is appreciated

Thanks in advance

Welcome

You will need to steadily build up the revs you use until you get to 1000 miles. Teutonic Tamer did a schedule for this some time ago I believe. You will need to use the search function to find it

and once you have done that, you  need to give it the thrashing of its life as a welcome to the real world intro...       Just joking... I'd never do that to my car  .  People who do that tend to plan on keeping their cars for a couple of years or so or have them on a lease.

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

I used to know a girl that did the handovers of new cars at one of the importers in cannock (not sure if it was motorhouse or motorhouse 2000) and there were some nightmare scenarios that came up on a regular basis...

1- Salesman offers you £3000 for you part ex, then come handover day they have a closer look and find a few things that need doing (dents and scratches) and offer you £500 less, even though the dent and scratched were there when it was valued. She said it was suprising how many people paid up (I ferkin wouldndt!!!)

2- Only 1 key supplied (usually with ex-fleet). They will forward the key on should it turn up. (Arse will they)

It might be worth seeing who woll be doing your handover and checking these details with them, as it was a few years ago and things may have changed.

On the other hand, my Uncle has had his last few cars from importers in Cannock and seems happy. Just watch out for the added extras...Like £40 for a pre-delivery wash. Bugger that  -  Head over to www.detailingworld.co.uk and have a read up, spend that £40 on decent products and you`ll be alot happier than letting their sponge monkey loose on it.

Paul

PS-Excellent choie of colour.

don't you buy and sell your cars quite regularly? (shorter holding period than 2 years)

Lol.. you've got me there...  Still didn't thrash my cars though - just did a lot of mileage in them like the R32 which I drove to Morocco via Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain - well almost, I left it in Gibraltar.   I had my first Ed30 for 6 weeks but had to sell as I was moving house and also wanted to invest in something at the time.  Mind you, I didn't really like the manual Ed30 - oh and the small fact that I had done 8000 miles in 6 weeks
