My First Golf!
« on: 17 November 2007, 14:25 »
Hey everyone I'm new to this forum and this is my first Golf, A 1.6 Driver, hope u don't mind me being on here without a GTI.

Iv wanted one for ages but could never afford to insure one, for some reason they dont seem to like young lads and Golfs! Dunno why.......!

Iv been after this car since I found out it was available, about a year or so ago now, Iv acquired it from my dads boss for the measly sum of a bottle of something he likes 2 drink! so free effectively! Score!

Its a 1.6 / 1.8 1992 J reg Driver Not 100% yet he says its a 1.8, the insurance company say its a 1.6.

Its got a full VW service history and only one or 2 problems I'm hoping wont be to difficult to fix.

At the moment its at my dads work in Gloucester so i can only go on what he has told me and the photos. Its got a water leak he thinks from something like the water temp sensor or summit, not sure (he has nvr had a golf b4) but many cars he has worked on.

Iv already got a few plans for it, like id like to change from the 4 headlights to just two and de-badge the front grill, not sure how to do this but from the photos iv seen i prefer it that way. any help will be much appreciated.

Iv been reading various posts about lowering and alloys as these were two things i would also like to do, depending on my available funds. Iv heard 40mm is a good drop so ill look into that.

I also like the idea of the 8v GTI Cam swap oh and i was thinking of looking into chipping it, any experiences from that?

Anyway Cheers evry1 I'm sure i will be bugging you all a lot more with queries and ideas/opinions.

what colour is it? looks like an off white

changing the grill is easy, just a case of undoing a couple of screws on the grill, and the carefully popping off the clips.

40mm is a good lowering height, and eibach is a good make for you.

persoanlly, with the the colour of the car, i would get a set of crystal/red rear lights.

Brilliant thanks! ill root around to find a suitable grill, maybe look for a front spoiler at the same time. (sorry if thats the wrong phrase) am i right in assuming when iv taken the old grill out, the other two lights just become redundant and i just tidy up the wires from them?

Ill check out eibach in a min, and as far as the colour goes, im actually colourblind so its looks silvery to me, but dad says its kind of green, these photos were very early in the morn and frosty lol

Ill check out those light suggestions aswell, ill do a photoshop mod to see what i think, prob be a shabby attempt but it will giv me an idea.

oh yeah i have a 1.6 driver, there are more on here than you would think.

the wires from the inner spotlights just unclip and you can just tie them up to stop them from hanging around in the engine bay.

as for the colour, either ring up your vw dealership and ask for the parts department, then they can give you your paint code from their database. other option is to check in the bootspace for a sticker and that also has the paintcode. then check on here and there is a section for paint codes

there are a few people on here selling the bits your after, so check out on there as they are cheaper than buying them in the shops
