why the hell does this car give me soo much headache

its now cutting out at junctions and sometimes idles very low. I know it could be with the cold weather but im sure it shouldnt cut out

anyone shed some light on this problem or im gonna burn it.

ive changed EVERYTHING, coil packs, maf sensor, coolant sensors, blaa blaa the lot

I want to clean the throttle body out but Ive heard they need adjusting with VAG.com once you unbolt them.

Is there anyone who can set this for me (bedford area) got the funds for you

chers

Just out of interest have you tried plugging it into VAGCOM to see if any faults at thrown up?

pressure drop between thingy and thingy  (cant remember)

So im guessing its a vacume leak thats causing this.

ive searched the mk4 forums and i dont understand half the technical jargon they write about

Yeah, similar thing with me sometimes. Ummm I dont know what else to suggest other than take it to the garage and let them sort it out ( $£$£$£ :(). If your not sure what your doing, I dont know what else you can do . . ?

I havnt taken my cars to a garage in 3-4 years (apart from MOT) so not going to give in soo easy

ill try the smaller vacume hoses first.

I did have a vw mechanic mate look at it and he said ''change the MAF sensor'' when i replaced it a few days ago. Just shows that im better off finding the fault myself.  :nerd:

Hello
I may be able to help you out on this one, although it's a bmw i used to have that displayed the exact same symptoms that your vw is showing.
There was a little known fault on the 318i coupe's that caused it to cut out at junctions, idle was all over the place etc.. I took it to my local independant and he started changing all kinds of parts but he started off with the maf sensor and went on with the hoses and things. Two weeks and a few hundred pounds later the fault still wasn't cured. I searched all the forums and came accross a weird fault by accident, it was something to do with the gasget that sits between the throttle body and the manifold. It cracks and disintegrates over a period of time letting in air causing the idle to be all over the place. The engine management couldn't compensate for it. I took it back to the indy and told him what i'd read and guess what he told me? Yes he knew about this problem but it is so rare he didn't think of it straight away!
Changed the gasket about £1 (i think) and the problem was solved.

I'm gonna try and find the post on bimmer forums so you can see exactly what it is but it deffo something to do with this gasket.

Should have stuck with the mk2  gasket between throttle body and inlet manifold :)

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

monzablue16v....That's exactly what i was trying to say!!!

This is the info from the BMW forum

Cause:
A known fault with the "heating radiator plate" (metal bit between the thottle body and inlet manifold, heats the air slightly before entering manifold). The gasket either side of this plate cracks over time allowing air to be sucked in through the seal giving the effect of having your foot on the accelerator pedal, the "idle control valve" is unable to compensate for this defect.

There was more symtoms listed than the above but you get the jist of it.

Solution was to get a new heating radiator plate with the new gaskets on either side. The old radiator plate can't be used because the old broken gaskets stick to it.

Hope this helps.
