New Southerner here in the North

Hello peeps,

I'm Hayley known as Chappers to most in the car scene (VAG, SCC, SCN etc).

Just sold my SEAT LCR to clear the extremely expensive finance and got myself a run around - VW Golf GTi 2.0 8v, R '97, 125k on the clock for £1k...didn't think that was too bad a price.

Needs a new power steering pump which I've sorted (Golf Nuts, Middlewich), needs a little tlc ie. loads of stone chips on the bonnet/front bumper, 2 small bubbly rust patches on passenger doors and condensation probs inside.

So any advice will be gratefully received and I'll gladly buy anyone a beer or 2

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice as this is my first 'older' motor, always bought new-2yrs old with warranties.

I've just joined the forum myself. In Manchester as well and just bought a Mk3 with 120k on it. Probably find out you live next door now!

I need to get a tiny bit of body work sorted as well. Do you have any recommends for body shops round here? I've heard thare's a decent one in Urmston.

I live in Heald Green 3 miles from the airport.

I've got a few mates that have lived in Urmston all their lives, so hold fire....they might know someone there and we can maybe take both our cars there together and get a deal

I'm off to Golf Nuts in Middlewich tomorrow morning to get some odd bits that I need, so if you need bits too might be worth you coming along

Hi Haley. That's a bugger. I'm flying out tomorrow for a couple of days' work. Would have been good to come to Golf nuts with you - find out where it is and all that. I need a near side rear light cluster (mine's melted) and a bulb holder for my off side repeater (corroded). I'm only in Levenshulme so not far at all. I'll stick your number on my moby and drop you a text re the bodyshop. Did I mention that I'm a dangerous stalker with previous convictions for odd behaviour? Hope that's not a problem!

Got my power steering pump (£25) and replacement GTi gear stick/knob/gaiter etc (£5); he's texting me when a MK3 steering wheel appears as mine is loose fitting and there's lots of movement.  He had loads of goodies, it was like walking into Aladins cave!!!

I'm still looking into the paintjob stuff and will update you shortly.
