Golf GTI R (400bhp 4wd project in mind)
« on: 14 November 2007, 07:50 »
Did they make a mk3 Syncro and am i right in thinking syncro means 4wd. The reason i'm asking is because i have a project in mind, in which i want to put a decent turbo engine in a mark 3 golf and i'm not sure if i should use the something like nissan pulsar running gear or if i could use syncro stuff.

Yes and yes!

We had a lady member a few months back that joined to sell hers. She basically used hers as an off roader or on twisty muddy back roads.

cheers guys, just had a look at the one on ebay its a bit to much money a bit to nice to start chopping around. I think i might just buy a crashed pulsar put everything off of that on my mint mk3.  The reason i thought of a pulsar is because my friend runs a garage that deals with jap performance stuff so he'll no that engine etc and be able to help me. He also told me its not that hard to get 400bhp out of pulsar's and i think a 4wd mk3 with anywhere near that power will be amazing. What you reckon?

Why bother butchering a Mk3 when its just gonna be a jap clone?
Dont think most of us around here will be interested in it!

I dunno len, it's something different and I like it when people do some clever engineering. Look at the TVR MKI. It wasn't really much of a MKI after it was finished but it was still an awesome DUB.

i do understand what your saying but would you seriously not be impressed if you saw a 400bhp golf doing good 1/4 mile times. i love golfs but want something 4wd with power and i don't wanna go buy something like an impreza. I only want to use the jap stuff because i know what it can do and i can get a lot of help with it.

You could of course just buy a MKII Rallye and drop a 20v T in it. Less work and been done many times before so I get the feeling that won't appeal as much to you.

i did think about doing something like that and i do like the idea but your right i really wanna try something new and be a bit different. I no that its going to end up costing a fortune and giving me lots headaches but i really wanna try it. Also my friend took me out in a pulsar running around 400bhp and the way it delivers the power was amazing and i was hooked straight away. I wouldn't change the look of the golf on the outside just leave it looking standard.

a project like that will certainly involve a lot of work, but if you aren't concerned about the cost then i say go for it! nothing wrong with being different... it wasn't so long ago i had someone looking at the cost of transplanting an evo engine into my rallye
