i had a gt tdi 130 and it went like feck!
it defo had not much in it between that and the 1.8 turbo model, plus with the extra torque from the gt tdi it felt even quicker!, would like another one but dont fancy one with over 150k :( last one i had, had done 90k and the turbo went :( , dont fancy forkin out for a turbo again.
But the derv's are defo a consideration and at 50mpg, its a good plus point!

I got a 2.0 and the performance wasnt what I expected, but its not slow (obviusly). It also nice and comy and solid (like any other MK4).

As others have said there really isnt much in it between the 2 N/A lumps. Id say if you can try and get the 1.8 but if a nice 2.0 come along then go for that. What ever takes your fancy really. Id bracket both N/A lumps in the same band so doesnt really matter what one you get. Thats my take anyway.

The TDi's a 1.8Ts are in a diffrent bracket I'd say (faster).

The 2.0 115's also have they're own automatic oil change system!!  The lump gulps it down quick-time & you keep topping it up, LOL

If you can find a 1.8 125, buy that - It's a much more modern engine.  More power, more mpg, less Co2 etc.
Current Car:- 2014 GTI PP manual, white.

Make way for..... 'The Silver Bullet'! 227 bhp, KO3-S'd AGU, R-TECH Spec 2 map 8), Forge 007P, Blueflame Turbo-back, Eibach -30mm's, YellowStuff front/RedStuff rear pads, Goodridge braided lines, TT Short-shifter, R32 Dogbone, TT W/B bushes, Forge TIP, G60 fly/VR6 clutch, 5.5 ltr washer bottle,

Thx for the info ppl,
Ended up with a w reg silver 3 door 2.0 litre one :)
still nothing really fast, but still does the job as a good daily runner.
its done 110,000 miles and is not far off new inside and out.
Has full VW history and came with a nice set of 18" Rs8's  so couldnt really turn it down.
Just going to swap the wheels and put a set of 19" Rs6's on it next week.
And maybe a sports back box just to give it a bit more of a sound to the 2.0 litre lump !
And the daily drive is complete

Ive got exactly the same spec, W reg 2.0. Got mine with 95k on it around 3mnths ago. Let me know if its right that im getting an average of 300 miles per tank....a huge amount but ive heard its a guzzla so its probably about right.

Also keep it well oiled and id let it warm up for around 5-7mins before driving in the cold weather as it massivley affects the mpg rate
