Bought a Golf...no...Bought a GTI
« on: 13 November 2007, 18:53 »
Hello all,

Just purchased a 06 reg 3d Diamond Black GTI, with 25k on the clock. Lovely car, compared to my old bashed 1.6 Peug 306. Almost crashed it when drove off the forecourt as the power overwhelmed me completely. Had a nice weekend away to test it in the b-roads where it excelled.

However, the dealer told me that I should press the remote twice to deadlock the car. However, the manual says otherwise. A single press makes the drivers door red led to flash, which I believe is the indication for deadlocking.

Also, a plastic cover from the front right of the drivers seat rail was in the back seat bin and this surprised me, and made me wonder what leads did I see underneath.

Thirdly, does anyone use the FM transmitters to play MP3 players through the car stereo. Are these any good.

Welcome to the forum DrT

Deadlocking the car as standard is simply the one plip. This function can be altered in the settings of the car and can be changed to two plips. You can clearly hear the deadlocking action as it gives out a solid sound that is louder than those cars without deadlocking.

I have used the Dension fm transmitter in the past and whilst it is an acceptable method for accepting the signal from an MP3/IPOD it isn't as good as a dedicated hardwired one.

Are you sure about availability of double click deadlocking to be programmed??? Now I am very confused. How do I know which combination is currently programmed. I don't have highline computer. When I double click the remote, my indicators flash twice. If I click once, they flash once. Manual does not indicate which is the indication for deadlocking. I have one side unlocking currently enabled, which I do find handy. I would like the auto cental locking on as well.

Picture too....

Great car. Exactly like mine

I always click twice as the previous cars i've had required double click or im just assuming the golf is no different.
Im sure its 2x for deadlock (but im not 100%)

i had one. It was ok'ish. Sound quality isnt as good as hardwired though. Sounds mono rather than stereo as the sound is alot flatter

I think we need a consensus on this deadlocking issue.

Any one else out there? Double or single clicking on the remote?

Once to dead lock 100% and enable alarm. Twice to lock but note, this also disables the alarm. I used to multiple click not knowing my alarm was being turned off so one click and just check for the lights flashing!

Great forum.

This is what I was afraid I was doing when I was double clicking. Can you still pull on the exterior door handle when deadlocked, cause it said something about door levers in the manual? Or is it just for the interior levers?

BTW, what's the best way of testing the alarm??

Well i press it twice and my alarm still bes on. I know the alarm is on because once i left the windows down and reached inside my glove compartment and the alarm went off.
