Low revs, stalling?
« on: 12 November 2007, 10:37 »
My girlfriends Golf MK2 1.6 1989 Driver sometimes drops to low revs. As she hasnt got a rev counter I would say about 450-550rpm. If I give it some throttle it perks up again, lights illuminate better etc. On Saturday I took my daughter swimming. I pulled into the car park and it cut out, re-started and cut out again? Once we had finished our swim we got back into the Golf, no worries, started and drove fine......any ideas?

The Golf has had......new HT leads, dizzy cap, plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter and I sprayed some Carb cleaner into the carb following the instructions on the can the other week.

could be carb icing, check the warm air feed pipe is hooked up, the metal shroud on the zaust manifold is present and the warm air flap openms when the engine is running :)

Also check out all the vac hoses, a vac leak can make the car stall.

Hmmmm.....It does'nt have a warm air feed, it kind of fell to bits!  Although its stalling after 10 or so mins of running?

yep carb icing, can happen any time into a journey, the longer you drive the more likely it'll happen.  Doesn't even have to be cold, in fact it's more likely to happen if its moist out ;)
