Hello and can anyone help
« on: 11 November 2007, 12:48 »
Hello I’m new to the forum and was hoping someone might be able to help me with a little query i have. I am struggling with getting in to the computer settings menu on my golf GTI.

I have followed the instructions in the manual which states I should depress the button under the wiper lever and then push and hold the rocker switch on the end of the lever, all to no avail. Just to give you a bit of back ground my car has the following; the split dash display (the one with the info on the bottom and the warning lights on the top, combi instrument display I believe), no steering wheel controls (long story) and it’s a 56 plate Mk5. I did a search of this site but couldn't find the answer. However if i did miss the obvious my appologies in advance.

As I understand is the custom on this forum I have also attached a few photos of my GTi, though my photography skills are a little lacking. I mean common how did I manage focus on the garage and not the car?

sounds like you dont have the highline computer, which you need.

i held the button on the end of the stalf down for a few seconds then the menu comes up. i then use the single button (ok/reset) underneath to change options

from your description, you have the midline computer installed. Are you trying to get to the settings that alter the central locking etc. If so, they can only be accessed with the highline.

Or are you trying to alter the settings for km/h to mph?

If you don't have the highline, then you will either need to visit your dealer to alter any settings (usually charge 1/2 hr to 1hr labour) or buy yourself a VAG-COM lead and access the settings via a PC linked to your OBD port under the steering wheel. :nerd:

I think your right in saying that i do not have the highline computer. I didn't realise that these options were only availabe with the highline computer.

I was trying to get to the option for altering how long the lights stay on when in the coming home setting, I wanted to shorten the time a little. gutted i don't seem to have the right computer though. its amazing what you miss when you don't know what your looking for.

Out of curiosity what options do you need to specify if you want the highline computer? Thanks for he help.

erm it specified as Highline I think

it also comes with the Sat Nav and multifunction wheel options as well if you spec those I believe.

Most people regret not specing it for the sake of saving £50

Well i'll be one of those 'most people' you're talking about. thats a bit anoying really, i wanted the multi function steering wheel when originally specifying the car but we decided it would be better to save on a few options and get the DSG instead. I didn't realise the computer was different different without the mf steering wheel.  Well at least i know now.
