Electrical Problemo :(
« on: 10 November 2007, 23:50 »
Damn, just got my golf running again after an engine swap & i seem to have some kinda electrical fault   I'm wondering if its something to do with the immoboliser?  the car totally cut out on me & wouldn't bump start.  I'll check all the obvious like fuses, connections etc in the daylight tomorrow, laughing now but was gutted earlier!  luckily it happened a not to far from where i live!     Hopefully it aint anything too serious, with any luck its just a loose/bad connection.

could be, or it might be a snapped wire in the engine bay.  mine cut out and it was a wire to the injector rail and both earths to the cylinder head that had snapped!

 Managed to jump start her & got up the road, turned over a few times with no problems, went back a few hours later & same problemo   the snapped wire in the engine bay sounds promissing as i did find a wire near to the injectors that wasnt connected to anything & i aint got a clue where it goes, maybe thats the culprate!  cheers Jonny, i'll have a look at some manuals first then start checking all the wires, my battery is brand new & my starter & alternator seem to be fine too, just as if somethings totally drained the power????  Any help is well appreciated!

oh, my idle boost valve had worked its way free too, i heard the hissing when it was running & noticed it as soon as i popped the bonnet, no doubt that wouldn't be helping any!

ah, thats probably the alternator charging wire, would explain your problems ;)
You know when it is disconnected becasue when you turn the ignition on without starting the engine, the battery light wont come on.  It should ;)

 Nice One Jonny, found it and re-connected it, now the battery light comes on on the dash!  But!!!!  it wasnt the wire that i first found!  Its murder trying to see where it comes from (especially in the dark!) but theres only enough length on the wire for it to reach from left to right to perhaps the coil???  I'll look through the manual & see if i can pin point it.  Thanks again for your help!  You da man!

 cool, yeah it could be from the old alarm that was once in the car as there was wiring left in, only found that out when the immoboliser was being fitted.  Any luck its not a wire that i need, but yeah, i'll take a pic tomorrow at work as they've got a digi camera. Nice One.
