engine weights

hey i am considering an engine conversion for my mk2, possibly a 20vt, g60 or a 16v. i was trying to find out how much these engines weigh as handling is important to me.
does anyone have or know where i can find a list of the vag engine weights that can fit a mk2? thanks

at a guess the 16v will be heaviest, and the g60 and 20vt will be roughly the same, if not the g60 maybe lighter... actual weights i dont know, but for performance the 20vt offers by far the better options, tunable to around 220bhp with just a re-map and a couple of mods...

as for actual weights maybe some one else can help...

yeh the 20vt is excelant for its tunability i just thought it would be fairly heavy engine. but if its lighter than the 16v it cant be that bad. i thought it would been heavier. hopefully someone can come up with an accurate list though.

now im thinking straight and im not half asleep and bored mindless, the 20vt will be heavier than the valver.

but by far the most tunable!

yeh i thought it would have to be. anyone have a 1.8 20vt conversion who can tell me how they hande. whats the best setup for them etc?

  I think people often times get hung up on HP. No doubt the 20vt and the 16v options win out there at higher revs but the first place to start if you are a performance driver is to get the handleing and brakes right. I learnt this lesson a long time ago when a standard 8v GTi with a trick handling and brake set up rounded me up after a few laps and passed me. Go handling and brakes first, then HP. You'll never look back.

Sounds like the right way to go! At least you will have the car setup properly and can squeeze the HP outta the car from there.

Good advice that, got a 2e sat in my garage for my mk2 but its going nowhere near the engine bay till ive played with the suspension and brakes, its no good having power if you cant use it

pffft, upgrade the brakes and suspension, get your rims wrapped in some nice toyo's or yoko's, that should take no longer than a weekend, then start dropping the 20vt in and get going... dropping the engine in is by far the hardest part or a general upgrade, but brakes and everything should really be upgraded first as pointed, but its reletivly simple and quick to do, also fairly cheap if you shop around.
