Stealers fixed turbo.   Now she flies!!

Stealers said there was an error on the ECU, so they 'reset the ECU', and bingo, the turbo started working.  Was told as it's not been used yet, it'll be a bit of time till it's running at full tilt.  Does the turbo need 'run-in' like the engine ??

Anyways, massive difference, and experiencing what I'd payed for.

Excellent result, but no less than I would have expected.

I'm glad it wasn't the DV then.

superb news

Maybe someone with more GTI specific engine knowledge could let us know if this is true?
ECU fault = limp home mode , which I assume was leaving the wastegate etc open?

Turbo would still be spinning though as afaik the exhaust gases still go by it no matter what
, so I guess its already run in.
Id still go easy to bed it in for a few miles under boost conditions.

cant see how the turbo hasnt been spinning at all , any mkv gurus care to explain?

anyways , enjoy your new found torque mountain ........

Hmm, interesting. I've been following this thread and been thinking the exact same about my standard GTi but was a little hesitant to contact the dealer as I thought I'd be done for time wasting, especially as I've only covered 1,000 miles or so.  :undecided:

To me, (like your description) the car feels more or less like a N/A 2.0 - there seems to be reasonable grunt up to about 3,500/4,000rpm, at which point, I'd expect it to fly but it doesn't - in fact at times it almost feels a bit asthmatic. I had a Golf Gt 170 (1.4 TSi) before this and it felt more raw at higher RPM for some reason, don't get me wrong the GTi is fast (as the speedo testifies!) but perhaps not so much as I'd have expected - there's also no discernible turbo sounds bar a VERY quiet tish from the turbo when lifting off (I'd have expected it to be slightly more pronounced/more of a spool up sound).

Perhaps I'll get the dealer to have a quick look to be sure.

PS. Sorry to make my first post a moan!
