Advice and help needed
« on: 07 November 2007, 21:51 »
Hi there,

I am new to this forum as I have only had my 2l GTI for 3 months, moved from the blue oval to the VW brand, this is my second golf though.
The old girl is a 2001 X plate 2l GTI and when I bought her she was showing 55k on the clock she now has 58k showing so coming up to the dreaded cam belt change.
So firstly is there any recommended garages I should use in the Hull area for a 60k service and cambelt change.
Whilst it's in the garage also need them to look at the suspension creaking from the front offside, engine warning light (which is the temp sensor as I've already had one replaced under warranty but the garage obviously can't do the job properly so need to have it sorted once and for all), there seems to be excessive whirring noises from the fan belt area of the engine and it also sounds quite agricultrual under 40 mph. Performance and mpg have not been effected.
Also is there anything else I should have done whilst it's in.
So far been quoted £190 for the sevice £255 for the cam belt.

Thanks

Rob

Hi mate, I also have a 2.0 gti and I had the cam belt changed 6 month ago. I paid £200 all in which was fitted by a mobile timing belt company outside my house. The job took the guy about an hour and a half.

Just had my wife's 2.0GTI cambelt changed today along with waterpump for £155.00 inc VAT at local garage. My Turbo was done at VAG a while back for roughly double that

Thanks for the replies, took the plunge and booked the car in at a local garage but ex VAG man, when I went in with the list of problems he told me he would need the car for a few days to sort. Booked in for cambelt, water pump, service, engine warning light and suspension check, best bill 600 notes worst bill 1k (Which will include Koni/Eibach suspension set up if needed). Whoever said owning a car was fun!
