Experience - ED 30's with chip tune

None of Revo's Stage1 remaps are especially aggressive and they are among the best developed. I understand that Superchips is a generic internet download whereas a Revo tuner will adjust settings to suit your individual car.

if you want the best of all worlds id go for the GIAC with swichable handset, its also non countered ie when VW plug diagnostic check it doessnt register has being chiped, my bluefin would come up when it was read "the ecu" time and date and when it was reprogramed so if your nervous of loseing warranty giac is the way forward, revo is ok but anyone can lift the boost a little higher then anyone else, and if your not going for a 3" turbo downpipe and sportcat and CAIS why would you want to put it on the rolling rd and custom map it.

GIAC is the one I most definitely would NOT go for! It's basically developed for the American version cars plus I'm personally not at all impressed by Regal - But each to their own. Does GIAC even have a remap available for the Ed30?

NONE of the remaps available are undetectable if VW really wants to investigate - The ECU can be sent to specialists in Germany. However, several of the remaps, such as Revo, are 'undetectable' to the average UK VW dealer. That's my understanding of matters.

I can't understand why people tend to quibble over whether the dealer can see the remap or not. If you have the car remapped then you should tell the dealer. If you don't tell the dealer you may end up having the remap wiped over with subsequent "safety" upgrades by VW. Ditto with the insurance.....tell them. It will cost you more to insure, but you will have the peace of mind of knowing that the insurance company will cover you if you smash up your car or (heaven forbid) injure someone.
  Re.. the GIAC remap. I haven't seen any ED30 available remaps, but if they did do them, my first question would be "does your remap allow the car to run in stratified mode with the higher octane (98 ron) fuel that us Brits get over here in good old blighty?"

....I agree with you 100%, Hurdy. I discussed having a remap with both my VW dealer and insurer BEFORE doing so. I always switch to stock map for any dealer session so that any VW update can be loaded without problems. Furthermore, Revo usually recieve the same updates from VW within a few days of them being released and are consequently up to speed with any issues. Some VW and Audi dealers offer a Revo as an option on your new car in the UK and in Greece it's widespread on Skodas.

I personally went for bluefin, which I received 3 days ago.  Best money I ever spent.  Not the best time of year to get the best from Bluefin, as the roads are always wet, and its hard enough to get the power down in the dry.  But, I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.  This car really flies with Bluefin.  Some people have said its not much different up to 3k revs, but I notice it just about 2k revs.  You only need a light touch on the accelerator to feel the difference.  And as I've only had it for a few days, it gets better every day, as the car gets used to the bluefin.

And fuel economy is unchanged.  Not too surprising I guess, as you're only using the extra power occassionally.

Anyway, just sharing my experiences.

ive had mine on the car for a few months now and its awesome.

excellent fuel economy too

not too crackin on the traction this time of year, but a standard gti wont be i expect.

anyway driving around normaly is no different to the standard car.

I have bluefin on my ed30. You will definitely notice the power/torque increase. low to mid range, the car just pulls so strongly, imagine driving at one gear lower and you'll get the rough idea. However, the car feels less impressive past 5K rpm. Of course it's still much better than stock, but compared to the mid range shove, i feel the top end can do with more 'fizz.'

Thumbs up from me for the Bluefin.  Had for the best part of seven months now, done about 5k with it installed.  Very smooth with a very noticeable increase in power, I've driven my back in standard a few times and it feels extremely sluggish!  Very quick to buy/receive & install with minimum hassle.  Although prepare to splash out on tyres regularly! Just had two new Conti's fiited on the front after 7500miles! Was down to 2mm and the traction was a joke.

I have to wonder about this, after calling Regal who are the main UK distributor for Giac they confirm their maps(GIAC) are not for the USA and are set for UK models they have not altered the stratis mode that we have seen issue with on some american gti's, they state this is scare mongering.they took a dim view of what has been written lately on forums.
I also spoke with my local tuner who is a GIAC agent, he has mapped x2 MK2 L/C and x2 ED30 so far with the GIAC map, i personaly seen the map applied to a TT and can confirm the flash counter remained the same before and after mapping.i ahve also been a passenger in 1 of the Leons with the GIAC map i wouldn't say it was agressive and when compared with APR/Revo it came out better when comparing the graphs, there also seems to some better options here too, mapping is switchable and can be done on the move, options include valet mode for winter use where the BHP is dropped to 180 so there are no traction problems and you can save on fuel bills(bonus) flash counter isn't increased either(dont doubt VW HQ would be able to track the map at some point)
I also brought up the Strat issue with him and he advised he would show me this on my car after mapping was finished.
In the past 3 months i have seen 2 cars with Revo maps have issues, one required major work.the other had to travel to Revo Hq. so alls not well with other tuners either.
