fitting mk4 rear caliper's....

has any body fitted mk4 rear calipers to their mk3 as mine are starting to seize again!!
my questions are how easy are they to fit and do i need any extra bits to fit them?? or should i just buy some recon standard one's?  oh yeah it has the earlier abs system fitted with the ecu under the rear seat

Mk4 ones are no better than mk3.
Only the early mk3 are crap as they are the same as mk2.

they will bolt right up, but you need conversion flexi hoses

They bolt straight on but you need differant hoses.

The Mk4 ones are lighter and a lot less prone to corrossion.

alloy ones still corrode, the bleed nipples in particular are worse for siezing in than the steel ones due to them being a different metal to the caliper.

Ive done it, as said they bolt straight on but you need the flexis. I bought goodridge one from cnr enterprises in nottingham.
If i remember correct the mk4 had an internal handrake mechanism so was less likely to seize.

So do the late mk3 units. Mk4's are barely lighter and will suffer from a worse type of corrosion than the mk3s ever will, due to the mixed metals.

When in the history of brakes has anyone replaced them for being rusty anyway? I've never known a set of brakes to ever have more than a tiny bit of surface rust

Which lets be honest a wire brush and hammerite will sort.
