Edit: DIY white alloys - Black
« on: 01 November 2007, 16:21 »
hopefully buying some BSA 282 alloys on the 15th for my winter wheels and getting the bbs refurbed for summer. my question is can i rub the wheels down and spray them white or is this a job for the professionals? how do you prepare and spray them etc?

I did my bottlecaps satin black myself...they look ok but that might be because the black is disguising my lack of skill

Probably the only set of wheels I've owned that look better with a coat of brake dust

They're kinda nasty, white wouldn't help things either IMO.

In the first pic the rims look very shiny, would I be right in thinking they are chromed or are they just polished alloys???

If they are chromed you'll have quite a job getting the paint to get a decent key and it will probably end up flaking off.
If they are polished alloy rough em up a bit with some coarse wet n dry or a gentle wire brush then get painting.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

get some white hammerite and a brush, bingo.

At speed know one will know. Black might look better though, not getting the white vibe on your Golf, mybe if there was no black trim it would look OK. IMO

Good luck, post a piccy when done though.

Gonna hangout with the wangout
