Cracked Window Seal (Bottom Plastic Section)
« on: 01 November 2007, 10:18 »
Hi there,

I have a cracked plastic seal on my driver's side window that i really want to get replaced (see picture below).

Basically, rust under the seal has caused it to lift upwards and crack, so i want to remove the seal, treat the rusted area and fit a new one.

So my questions are:

1. Is it possible to buy just the plastic trim part (since I don't think it is connected to the rubber) and if so does it have a name?
2. And if so is it easy enough to replace and how would I go about replacing it?

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

best bet i would think is the scrappers, ring round, find a mk2 then go and look if its on there, i couldnt tell you if you can buy it new, or even at all, but if it were me, scrappers would be first port of call.

also, the rust below, make a propepr job of it, dont want it coming back and doing the same again.

noble tuned - and still not fast enough!

I went to my VW dealership and they told me that the part i need is no longer available and couldn't be ordered :( The guy then continued to break the plastic even more as he was playing around with it.

those are actually made of metal and are 1 piece, the 'plastic' bit is actually the paint that has come away due to rust :)  They pull off the door once you remove the seal & mirror (if its a front door)
Get down your local scrappies, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a good one :)
