Alternative Ipod connections
« on: 30 October 2007, 20:27 »
I have opted for the dealer fitted Ipod cable for my new Ed30, having read the forum it doesn't always get a good write up.So i am looking at buying the Dension kit, i used to have the Icelink fitted to my MK4 GTi but they look to have have changed now.does anyone her have one fitted, the dension site shows the gateway kit that looks to have dash display?. Or how about the Harmon Kardon kit, gets a good write up but the wee joy stick thing looks to be a bit of an eye sore.
posted this in the MK5 section as i want to see/hear from people with this kit in their MK5 GTi/Ed30's any pics of the instal would be good to epec where the kit is mounted.
Thanks

I use the Harmon Kardon kit and I have to say its superb and pisses all over the dealer fit option for functionality. The wheel isnt too unsightly if you mount it down by the gearstick.

Thats all I have to hand.

Seriously though, you can pick it up for £50 now which is a bargain! The dealer kit is woeful in comparison

the dealer kit is shiiiite!
Im looking at getting rid of it and installing a 3rd party one.

Problems i have with using the VW one is that it takes ages to go forward or back when skipping tracks and the display is carp

yes dealer kit is sh!te, but even if you use the denison one it doesnt make any difference as any VW headunit will not reconise track names, only 5 playlists, even the new RNS 510, as I have found out still treats the ipod as a CD changer and wont display track names.

Apart from the Harman Kardon one which gives you display info, albeit on a seperate screen.

Incidentally the whole thing lights up blue at night so matche the golf interior well
