i need a turbo in my life!
« on: 30 October 2007, 15:42 »
had a mk1, loved it. got a mk2, love it! want a mk4 1.8t!

just a few questions for you though if i may

my mums got a 200150 tt, think its the aug? its quick, but doesnt seem that quick compared against my cam'd up 8v mk2. now im in no doubt that its the noise and road discomfort that adds to the mk2 sensation, but obviously the tt pulls off over 80

i understand that there's a few mk4 varients. <2000 ndbw and >2000 dbw. what does the drive by wire actually mean? as i know it effects the re-map potential.
i think il be looking at the 150 varient as theres so many around, so the 180's seem more £Â£

then onto the handling front. my mk2 is mint,  and driven my friens non turbo 20v mk4 it all seems ok, if a little wallowy. would my usual preferred h&r spring/arb combo bring the handling upto a respectable level?

thank you all for your time, Paul

The Mk4 wont be much (if any) quicker than the mk2 unless you get it Re mapped. Drive by wire means there is no throttle cable, but an ECU deals with that side of things. later cars with DBW had Variable Valve Timing aswell, which helps get more power when remapped.

All of the turbo variants have their pro's & cons, just depends on where/how you're going to mod it.

Handling wise, some Eibach springs with the std shocks & an uprated (Eibach?) rear ARB are a must.
