Condensation in lights??
« on: 29 October 2007, 10:57 »
Anyone suffered condensation in  their lights?? I have in the rear light cover...on one side..and I know it says in the manual it can happen (although they don't tell you how long it will last) when it gets damp or temperature drops but no other car I know suffers like this.

Any comments anyone??

I had it the high level brake light when I got the car, but it went over the summer.

However, it has returned this week now that it is colder. Had no problem with the light clusters though.

Mine has it when its been standing for a few days, and my Civic Type R used to get it to. Nothing to worry about.

My GTI has this problem on the left brake light. Once the water gets it it takes around 5-10 days for it to disapear and if i leave it in the sun then the water just turns to steam and then the whole light appears foggy.

VW are changing the whole unit for me under warranty next week

This is normal as the lights are vented, condensation builds up in them, but if you obv have a pool of water in them then thats bad.
check out all MK2 Leons they get it very bad.

OK ..phoned up supplying dealer and he said..after saying he didn't think this condensation thing was covered by the warranty..!!!!..that it was and he would order new part and it would be in on Friday

Booked car in for Monday morning.,..after waiting 1 hr they took it in to the work shop and after a further 30 mins said they needed to order spare light...!!!***!!**

Booked it in AGAIN for Wednesday..taken more or less straight into the workshop and after 15 mins it arrived back..technician showed me new light and I said 'why is it different from the other one..!!'.

He looked again and the new one had silver background where the original had black background..his response ..'Oh, they must be different on the Edition 30....we will have to order another one'...(me..splutter, swear..etc !!!!!).

Now waiting for them to contact me and tell me when its arrived because its on 'back order' whatever the f**k that is.

So as you can see not that impressed with first involvement with VW service..

And not going to save any red faces by saying they are not far from VW Parkway Leicester.
