downpipe fitting tips
« on: 27 October 2007, 20:48 »
finally got round to attempt 2 at fitting my downpipe and what a mare (the one with six nuts)
removed the 2 16mm and 1 14mm fron the front (easy bit as removed and refitted at attempt 1)
then the rear 3 nuts turned out to be 2 17mm and 1 really round thing (could have been a nut but didnt look like one) so my fitting tips are as follows
first off get your self a set of irwin sockets for removing rounded and rusted nuts (not cheap but worth every penny) just incase you need them
when you have undone the six nuts  look on top of the steering rack and you will see where the gear linkage bolts to it undo the three 10mm bolts move it to one side then you will be able to manouver it through alot easier than dropping the sub frame
i was thinking of subframe removal till one of my steering rack bolts snapped (it was a time of extreme happyness)
i just hope this will help someone fit theirs with a bit less grief than i had

got it done then?

we had to take ours off again as it turned out to be a craked pipe and not the gasket.
Fortunatley Shaun has a pit in his garage so we managed to get it out without dropping the subframe or rack. talk about tight fit!
