Advice Needed
« on: 23 October 2007, 20:50 »
Got a choice of 2 cars and can't decide.

An '06 R32 5dr Manual with 12k miles leather and satnav for £20k.

Or

Brand new GTI 30 5dr Manual Brand New UK Spec Import for £20,500.

Any advice, and also which will hold it's value better.  What will both be worth in 2 years 20k miles.

Or should i just get a new TT??????

i'd go for the GTI personally; cheaper to run and just as quick across country; look better too IMO

Personally, I'd go for the new GTI.

R32 is more of a fuel guzzler and has a silly road tax rate (£400) due to high emissions. Might be harder to sell on due to global scaring

I guess both cars should be worth about the same in 2 years time, but no car has cast iron residuals. New Mk VI Golf will also impact when it comes out next year or so.

Audi TT is probably the better bet for (perceived) exclusivity and residuals though.

Simple really. Buy the car you like the most and which gives you the best driving experience. My vote goes to the GTI - better all rounder by far and much more rewarding drive than the TT I previously owned
Now: VW Touareg Altitude V6 TDI 3.0 240 bhp, Diamond Pearlescent Black
Previous: MY2007 GTI, 3 door, manual, pearlescent black and lots of toys - gone to a good home : )

i would go for the r32 and forget about running costs

that price does sound cheap

however, saying that a brand new car is always a good option as you can't beat that feeling

I looked at all three.

TT nice, but I can't fit the kids in the back.

R32 nice engine.

So I bought an ED 30.  Enough said.

....The Ed30 is a superb car! The Mk5 R32 is good, the V6 sounds awesome but it's far less nimble than the GTI and will cost more on fuel, tax, insurance etc. I've driven my GTI back to back with a Mk5 R32 on the same road route for half a day and still preferred the GTI.

Get the R32.. Simple!! goes like hell, nice n sure footed for winter (xenos std + 4wd), sounds unbelievable... i dont think the R32 is as easy to drive as the Gti. It takes time to master and I found that as mine is loosening up its just getting better and better.. With 12k on the clock the fun is only just about to start.. trust me! R32 gets the props for me

I personally think it will hold its value better as the mk6 R32 is likely to be the last released... where as Gti is introduced earlier. Plus yours seems well spec'd.. so will be a easy sale come time to sell. Dont worry about the fuel.. u can drive it slow if you wish (but obviously foolish to do so).

I expect the Gti owners to fight back... but really there is no comparison for me and I had the choice of both.. many dont! you do so bite the bullet n buy the daddy!!
