clocks
« on: 22 October 2007, 13:06 »
hi ppl, i have had problems with my clocks from my mk3 gti 16v.  I bought some used ones but the problems are still happening.  I took it to vw, they put it on the diagnostics but it was coming up with an error saying unable to read.  They are now saying that i need a brand new set of clocks, but they still may not work because i have took me original ones out.
Is this correct?  Has anyone else had these problems?

Cheers

the problem is that they switch off and reset everything, even when driving. the petrol gauge does not work, the temp gauge is not working properly and the speedo jumps.

There is a speedo sensor that clicks into the gearbox.. it gives all relevent info to your clocks for speedo, fuel etc.. That may be the problem if its faulty?

There isn't a readable block on the ECU to read faults with clocks. Definately sounds like an electrical problem somewhere, loose wires

hi
you sure its not your battery going dead?

similar thing happens on the mk4,

where by during driving or when stationary, everything goes dead, then comes straight back, car doesnt stall or anything, its when the alternator stops charging for some reason and the battery gets drained due to the battery power the whole car
