is this a good deal?
« on: 21 October 2007, 18:10 »
well i think so, my mate wanted something a little more economical and decided to swap my white e plate 8 valve 200k for his near mint h plate atlas grey valver 153k and 200 quid! here are pics of both.

and my old one,

Although i have spent the last day trying to sort an airlock as mate decided to change antifreeze and didnt check overheated in town and had to keep stopping to let it cool down! sorted now turned out the rubber seal on expansion cap had come off one end! ended up having to fit an old 8 valve rad with hose, the joys!  so i will be sellling soon as i need to clear my debts. and i cant really afford to run a valver on my measly wage.

153K I would be checking the worn valves and guides does she smoke any?
Other than if the car is legit is if you can afford the fuel bills then why not?
I still would be expecting something wrong with it costing more than £300 to fix

not really mate its seems fine got it already he just wants something more economical which sounds stupid going to an 8 valve, its is pretty mint, and straight only 4 owners, not as quick as i though but nice top end revs. he even offered to pay for head gasket if that had been the fault so he is pretty trustworthy.  oh it doesnt smoke nor use oil and gearbox is spot on
i must buy a new car!

Running cost shouldn't be too bad on a valver if you can stop yourself getting above 4k. As it will easily pootle around until you need a bit more umph. I'd try to keep it if poss, and if anything they are easier to fix than an 8v as they are all mechanical.
