Bling Gear Stick Gaiter
« on: 19 October 2007, 15:37 »
This might be a bit random...

I've searched around for photos of golf interiors, but can't find a good enough picture of the specific bit Im after.  To cut a long story short, my Mk2 has got a bling leather gear stick gaiter with a chrome surround, but I want to either return it to normal spec (the rubbery one I think) or to something more subtle e.g. plain leather.

The only problem is that the chrome gaiter surround is actually SCREWED into the centre console, so my question is, are all gaiters "screw-in" fitments, or has some muppet put twenty screw holes in my centre console that will be visible if I replace it??? The one I've got is a bit like this (but with literally twenty screws):

I would imagine he has just screwed it into the standard gaitor surround rather than the console. If you pull the front of the surround up where the coin holder is then it should all just pop up as one.

Tsk! Someone screwing holes into my golfs interior... Feels like its been violated!  I feel dirty

On the plus side... Does anyone want to buy a lovely, lovely gear gaiter. It looks amazing, will get you laid, and will give a +10 BHP gain.

Yeah it looks 90% like that - I'll take a piccy tomorrow when its light and post it up so you can have a look. You can have it for nowt mate, just the postage costs.

If anyone's got a picture of their gear gaiter post it up so I can have a butchers. Also, am I right in thinking this was the original gaiter that came with the car (or at least very similar):

And hobbiniho... Your right,  but this is a pre-1990 gaiter so only 10 bhp I believe. The +5 bhp increase came in post 1990 after VW uprated the leather.

Just so you know gti's don't have rubber surrounds they do have leather which is a bit nicer - it just clips in.
