Wait for the new A4, it looks very nice.

Mind you the way that Audi add things to the options list, can lead to a high total price. I was looking at a second hand S3 07 plate, no rain and light sensors, it was up for £27000 second hand

A few things were missing that are standard on the Golf:-

Interior light pack £140.

Rear centre armrest with cupholder

- with throughload (excludes ski bag)  £125

Electric lumbar support £190

Light and rain sensor pack £190

Bye Bye Edition 30

I could go for the TFSI 2.0 again and it could be a bloomin fast family Estate!!! after being chipped .But going for the DPF 2.0 TD to get 40mpg (town figure) which ive forgotten what that feels like!, the dealer has both a manual 170 and dsg so i can make up my mind.Ive found 6 good priced ones, only 4 months old at most , and are already down from £23600 starting price down to £21500, which i will knock em down by a grand as its getting near the end of their month, and they will wanna do business ie offers etc.

Also, if i didnt get one with sat nav fitted, is their anything else the car needs to have in place, ie must haves in order for an MFD2 system to work. ie fleabay later on for the unit.

I knew you would like it over the A4. A couple of guys at work have both gone for Passats over the A4 and both have transferred from Audi's (One from an A6 and one from an A4). Both agree that it is a more comfortable ride and that you get more for your money than with an Audi.

I suspect the £18k px they've offered is very tempting - as it is indeed a very generous offer!

Look at the 'price to change' and then check the price for similar Passats.

I wouldn't be  surprised if they've not tried to 'hook' you with a high px - so check what they're looking for on the Passat?

Bear in mind the residuals on the Passat will be nowhere near as good as on the GTi

Have you had a px offer at another dealership?

HTH,  Good luck!
