I dont think the diesel had 7k on the rev counter (5000rpm limit i believe??)... sounds like wrong clocks fitted giving funny reading's

Thanks for the reply, Im pretty certain its got 7000 on it but i will have another check...

Ive been looking through the service manual today and when the car was almost new (7,600 miles) the speedo/clocks where faulty and it had a replacment fitted at the main dealer maybe this is why? it may not have worked since then , im really not sure.. its definately reading somthing though, it sits at the redline all the time haha

I found out a few reasons why it may not be working, the car had a new clocks fitted at 7000 miles as the originals where faulty, and since then it may have had another set of clocks as the ones that are in now are off a petrol golf, not a diesel, they  have 7000 rpm on them not 5000 as they should...

, is this why its not working as it should>?

Bit of a long shot from here BUT petro lcars often read the RPM from the coil or coilpack as that is what sends the spark. On a deisel there is no spark so the reading must come from a crank sensor or something. THerefore the different sources for the different fuels mean that your clocks probably can't comprehend the signal they are recieving. Best bet is to get yourself a set of derv clocks off ebay or a breakers yard and go from there.

with the milage being digital though will this still read the right milage or  will the clocks i put in read the mileage of the car they came off?
