Questions from an 18 yr old 1.8 driver.. driver!
« on: 13 October 2007, 10:24 »
Hi all, so my current situation is that I have a perfect 1.8 driver sat on my drive SORN'd while I drive my old 1.4 Ibiza. My policy runs out on the 14th of November and I turned 19 in April.

My plan is to wait until I get my 1 years NCB then insure the golf.

Right, a few questions:

I was told that I'll be getting the 1 years NCB plus a bonus extra 1 years from Frizzell. Does this bonus NCB only apply with frizzell or can it be used with other companies too? (Or will they just accept the one year?)

Do I have to contact Frizzell in advance of my contract ending to tell them I would not like to renew it? Because with my brother's contract with them they tried to just go ahead and renew it without asking him.

When will I receive the certificate?

I'm currently doing my Institute of Advanced Motorists course - When I finish and pass this, I was told that I can save at least 25% off my insurance. Also with turning 19 in April I was thinking would I be able to take a monthly contract out in November then cancel this in April when I'll be 19 with my IAM certificate? Just I've noticed with alot of insurers it's like £350 for the first month then £100 for every month after, etc.

Cheers :)

Often bonus accelerators etc such as this are only acceptable with the company who issue it, I would check whenever you get a quote, from what you have said i doubt it would be something we would take and would base it on just 1yr.  :undecided:

Yeah if they Auto renew their policies i would definatly tell them in advance.

The discount for doing the IAM course will vary massivly with insurers - some may give big discounts for it, others may not give anything!

Yeah you can take a policy then cancel it, be carefull though as cancellation rates can be very high so you may lose a large portion of what you have paid meaning it does not work out worthwhile.

Thanks for the reply Martin :)

Well I got insured! £759 fully comp with 300 excess with Norwich Union Direct. Very happy with that!

I have another question though - I'm after buying some alloys for it. They're the BBS' that come standard on the 16v and I want to know if they'd put my insurance up by much or not?

Last year on my Seat Ibiza, I phoned up regarding a Green Induction kit. Wanted to charge me an extra £360 just for the remaining 6 months of my contract!

Cheers

Martin can you answer the question about replacing the alloys with another factory option in this thread please, im curious about that. For instance... could I swap 17 inch manzas for 18 inch manzas and not raise my insurance?

i would check with your current insurers tbh mate, as it will vary. With us it would be unlikely to make any difference but based on the increase your current insurers wanted to make for your backbox you mentioned in the other thread then i would check as it appears they are not too fond of any changes.
